What is an .XIF file?

File extension xif is related to a specialized XIFF (eXtended Image File Format) image format developed and used by Xerox. Most likely abandoned and replaced by some current standard.

xiff files contains streams of image information with text information that describes the document, and stores user annotations.

Although it is extensible, the specification does not include macros or code that is executed on a user's system.

It seems like this format was also adopted by some other programs like OmniPage, or TextBridge from Nuance.

MIME types:
image/vnd.xiff

This xif file type entry was marked as obsolete and no longer supported file format.

This type of file is no longer actively used and is most likely obsolete. This is typically the case for system files in old operating systems, file types from long discontinued software, or previous versions of certain file types (like documents, projects etc.) that were replaced in higher versions of their original programs.

Files with xif extension can be typically found as some older images in Xerox eXtended Image file format used to describe document.

How to open:

Both XnView and IrfanView should be able to open and view *.xif files.

How to convert:

It may be possible that the programs that can still access *.xif image might be able to export them to some different format.
