What is an .PFM file?

File extension pfm is used for files that contain font metric information used by applications for laying out lines of text in a document. They also specify the Windows font menu name, kerning pair data, and a variety of other font-level information. Used in many Adobe programs as well in other programs for Windows operating system.

Printer Font Metrics files are required for installing Type 1, CID-keyed, or composite font programs in a Windows system. Although this file format was originally designed for single-byte fonts, PFM files provide AdobeType Manager (ATM) and other software with key fontspecific information that is necessary for installation and use in a Windows environment.

Files with pfm suffix are fonts that also contain font metric information. Also called Adobe Type 1 font.
