What is an .KGE file?

The kge file extension is used for highly compressed archives created with open source program KGB Archiver.

The kge file is a compressed archive encoded with AES-256 encryption in version 1.X of KGB Archiver. Otherwise the default compression format has the KGB file extension instead.

The kgb file is a standard archive created with KGB archiver.

Seems that the official website is no longer available and the program is not further developed. It is however still available on its SoureForge website.

This kge file type entry was marked as obsolete and no longer supported file format.

This type of file is no longer actively used and is most likely obsolete. This is typically the case for system files in old operating systems, file types from long discontinued software, or previous versions of certain file types (like documents, projects etc.) that were replaced in higher versions of their original programs.

How to open:

KGB Archiver is able to open *.kge files, provided you know the password used to encrypt the files.

How to convert:

KGB archiver also supports common ZIP compression, so you can extract the contents of *.kge files with the program and compress them to ZIP if needed.
