What is an .GYP file?

The GYP file extension is associated with the Google Chromium project. GYP files contain input configuration data that are used to generate output files appropriate to the platform:

  • On Mac, a .gyp file generates one Xcode .xcodeproj bundle with information about how its targets are built.

  • On Windows, a .gyp file generates one Visual Studio .sln file, and one Visual Studio .vcproj file per target.

  • On Linux, a .gyp file generates one SCons file and/or one Makefile per target.

GYP file syntax is written in Python programming language.

How to open:

The gyp files are used for internal purposes of Chromium.

How to convert:

As far as we know, this .gyp file type can't be converted to any other file format. This is usually the case of system, configuration, temporary, or data files containing data exclusive to only one software and used for its own purposes. Also some proprietary or closed file formats cannot be converted to more common file types in order to protect the intellectual property of the developer, which is for example the case of some DRM-protected multimedia files.
