What is a .CLC file?
A .CLC file is a binary file format used by CLC Bio software, a suite of bioinformatics tools for analyzing DNA and RNA sequences. CLC Bio files can contain a variety of different types of data, including:
- DNA and RNA sequences
- Alignments
- Annotations
- Phylogenetic trees
- Images
- Project files
CLC Bio files are typically used to store and share data between different CLC Bio software modules. For example, you might use a CLC Bio file to store the results of a DNA sequence alignment, and then import that file into another CLC Bio module to perform a phylogenetic analysis.
CLC Bio files can also be exported to other file formats, such as FASTA, FASTQ, and Newick. This allows you to share your data with other researchers who may be using different software packages.
Here are some examples of how CLC Bio files are used:
- A researcher might use a CLC Bio file to store the results of a DNA sequence alignment of different bacterial genomes.
- A clinical geneticist might use a CLC Bio file to store the results of a genetic variant analysis.
- A plant biologist might use a CLC Bio file to store the results of a phylogenetic analysis of different plant species.
How to open a .CLC file
To open a .CLC file, you will need to have CLC Bio software installed on your computer. CLC Bio is a suite of bioinformatics tools for analyzing DNA and RNA sequences. You can download a free trial of CLC Bio from the QIAGEN website (mentioned above).
Once you have CLC Bio installed, you can open a .CLC file by double-clicking on it. The file will open in the CLC Bio Main Workbench.
How to convert a .CLC file to another file format? (Convert CLC to SnapGene)
