The apple_partition_map file extension is associated with the Apple Partition Map (APM) schemes introduced on Macintosh II computers. The APM is used to define the low-level organization of data on disks formatted for older Macintosh and PowerPC Macs.

The apple_partition_map files and APM disks are also readable in the MAC OS X.
