What is an .020 file?

The 020 file extension is generally used for split files. A part of larger file split using splitter software, such us HJSplit, WellTek 001 File Joiner & Splitter, SplitJoin or File Managers, such as Total Commander.

It is also associated with several archivers or compression tools, which are using, or did use in the past, the 020 file extension for its multi-volume files or archives, such as Winrar (see part20.rar) or 7-Zip (see 7z.020).

In case of split files, you will need to merge them first with the use of the splitting/joining software tool, before you can open or work with them. If the files are compressed multi-volume archives, you will have to extract the first one and it will automatically continue to extract all the parts. In either case, you will need ALL the parts to access the original content.

How to open:

To open or use the split file, you will need to first joint the file with the original splitting software. In case of multi-volume archive, just put all the parts in same directory and extract the first part.

How to convert:

In order to convert the original split file to something else, you will need to merge it first using the original splitting tool. In case of multi-volume archive, its not possible to convert only one part of it. Only complete archive can be converted in to another archive or compression format. The easiest way how to convert complete multi-volume archive is to decompress the archive with the use of supported archiving or compression tool and repack the content with another compression or archive application of your choice.
