De SGY-bestandsuitbreiding wordt gebruikt door SEG-Y Free Seismic Data-formaat voor gespecialiseerde seismische analysesoftware.
Het SEG-Y-formaat werd geïntroduceerd in 1973. Het slaat op de opslag van seismische activiteiten met driedimensionale seismische technieken.
