De GIF87 -bestandsuitbreiding wordt soms gebruikt voor grafische uitwisselingsindeling, een verliesloos bitmap -beeldformaat ontwikkeld door Compuserve in 1987.
Het GIF87 -achtervoegsel verwijst naar het originele GIF -formaat (87a) uit 1987. Het wordt zeer zeldzaam gebruikt. Standaard wordt gebruikte bestandsextensie *.gif.
