The xv2 file extension is related to Visual XVL, a high-speed, memory-saving format. XVL (eXtensible Virtual world description Language), an XML-based, neutral format used for compression, conversion, and integration of 3D data.
The format achieves high compression rates that make it possible to publish CAD data to the Web and include in Microsoft Office documents.
Lattice3D offers applications that let you use XVL files in such tools as 3D manuals, parts lists, marketing brochures, assembly instructions, and parts databases. Company president Alex Garcia-Tobar says the key to the high compression rate is that 3D geometry is translated from polygons to algorithms. No data is lost during compression, so XVL files are accurate to within 0.001 of the original.
The company offers a free XVL viewer as well as Professional Player, which adds measurement and cross-section capabilities. A converter supports major CAD and DCC formats, including SolidWorks, Solid Edge, Inventor, Unigraphics, CATIA, and IGES. It also handles Architectural Desktop files.
Lattice3D's converter is available as an application plug-in or as a server-based enterprise solution.
