.WPL File

The wpl file extension is used for  Windows Media Player Playlist files, a client-side playlists that are written in a proprietary format similar to XML. Microsoft introduced this file format in Windows Media Player 9 Series.

WPL format can contain dynamic playlists, whereas asx and m3u formats cannot. It is the default playlist format In Windows Media Player 9 Series and later.

The wpl playlist contains only list of songs or other media files and paths to them. These files DO NOT contain any audio or video data at all.

A wpl file extension is associated with Windows Media Player and used for its playlist files. Playlists contain list of songs that will be played when the wpl file is opened.

The simplest way how to convert *.wpl files is to open them in another media player than Windows Media Player and save them to different playlist format like M3U.
