What is an .VOB file?

The vob file extension is used for DVD Video Object files, which are in basically DVD movie files.

The vob file is a container file which includes most of the movies data, including the video and audio streams, along with subtitles and any menu features, and is so similar to MPEG-2 files that, apparently, you may be able to manually change the file extension to mpg or mpeg and it should still play.

The VOB contains H.262/MPEG-2 Part 2 or MPEG-1 Part 2 video, MPEG-1 Audio Layer II or MPEG-2 Audio Layer II audio.

The vob files can be played on a range of video programs. Generally your system will have a DVD player installed along with its DVD drive.
