What is an .VCR file?

File extension vcr seems to be in most cases related to ATI Video Recorder, a video recording utility that is a part of ATI Multimedia Center distributed with ATI multimedia graphics cards and ATI TV tuners.

A .vcr file contains captured video by ATI Video Recorder. Video data is stored in video file format optimized for ATI graphics cards.

ATI is now a part of AMD (Advanced Micro Devices, Inc.) and ATI Personal Video Recorder and Multimedia Center programs were discontinued in 2006.

This vcr file type entry was marked as obsolete and no longer supported file format.

This type of file is no longer actively used and is most likely obsolete. This is typically the case for system files in old operating systems, file types from long discontinued software, or previous versions of certain file types (like documents, projects etc.) that were replaced in higher versions of their original programs.

Files with vcr extension are in most cases video recordings made using the old ATI Personal Video Recorder software.

How to open:

Use ATI Personal Video Recorder to playback *.vcr video files. Unfortunately, we do not know about any other program capable to playback this format.

How to convert:

Use ATI Multimedia Center to export *.vcr files to other formats.
