The tod file extension is related to the JVC video format, that was developed for JVC's tapeless FULL HD camcorders.
The JVC video format hasn't got official name, but unofficial is called Transport stream on disk or High definition video. The maximal resolution of the captured video is 1080i and uses MPEG-2 video compression. Audio is saved in Dolby Digital audio format. The TOD high definition video format is compatible with M2T MPEG-2 transport stream format.
JVC camcorders, that use standard DVD MPEG-2 video format, save video in the JVC standard definition video format. Standard definition video format uses file extension mod.
JVC distributes with tapeless high definition video camcorders special versions of Cyberlink's applications such as PowerDVD, PowerCinema NE for Everio (PCM4Everio), PowerDirector NE and PowerProducer NE. This applications are recommended as native applications for playback and editing of TOD high definition video files.
The tod video files can be played on Apple Mac computers in the Apple QuickTime, but it is have to install QuickTime Component for Everio.
To edit the TOD video files on Mac computers can be used iMovie. Of course QuickTime Component for Everio must be installed.
Unfortunately iMovie'08 is not supported. Apple Final Cut Pro can also work with TOD files through QuickTime Component for Everio.
For smooth playback of TOD video files without using native Cyberlink's applications, JVC recommends multiplatform VLC media player. VLC media player plays TOD video files natively so without any loss of quality.
Higher versions of the Windows Media Player can play TOD video files, but it is recommended to rename file extension TOD to m2t.
Files with tod file extension can be found as video files in JVC MPEG-2 video format. Used in JVC devices.
