The spf file extension is used for Still Picture Interchange format (SPIFF). This file format enables JPEG and JBIG (bitonal) bitstreams to be exchanged between a wide variety of platforms and applications.
SPIFF is a generic bitmap file format defined by ITU (International Telecommunication Union) and ISO/IEC (International Standards Organization/International Electrotechnical Commission) for the storage, compression, and interchange of color or gray-scale, continuous-tone images, and bitonal image data.
SPIFF enables JPEG and JBIG (bitonal) bitstreams to be exchanged between a wide variety of platforms and applications. According to the specification, SPIFF is designed to incorporate functionality found in some (ad hoc) image file formats (such as JFIF).
It is intended that transcoding between any of these file formats and SPIFF should be simple. May contain a profile identifier to distinguish, say, baseline from progressive-encoded images. SPIFF is the official replacement for the JFIF file format for storing JPEG data. It is also the format to use for storing JBIG data, and it offers an alternative to CCITT Group 3, Group 4, and CALS for storing MR and MMR data.
Files with spf extension may be found as images in the Still Picture Interchange File format (SPIFF), which are used to exchange graphics between a wide variety of platforms and applications.
