File extension song is originally related to System 7 (also known as Mac OS 7) an operating system for Apple Macintosh computers, released in 1991.

A .song file stores audio data used on early Macs in early 90s.

Note: It may possible be that throughout the years other programs used or still use .song files for audio content. Could be just simple renaming of the suffix.

Files with song suffix are in most cases old audio files from System 7 operating system from 1991. But they can be any audio really.
