What is an .RT file?

The rt file extension is sometimes used for text files in Rich Text Format. In this format the text along with some very common formatting is preserved and stored in a plain ASCII text file with additional formatting commands somewhat like HTML files).

The more common file suffix used for Rich Text files is the RTF file extension.

MIME types:
text/richtext

Files with rt file extension can also be found as documents saved in Rich Text Format. The default rtf extension is much more common though.

How to open:

Any text editor or word processor with support of RTF format should be able to open and work with *.rt files.

How to convert:

You can convert these documents much like any other *.rtf files. Just rename the suffix from rt to rtf if your program has trouble recognizing it as RTF document.
