What is an .ROM file?

Read only memory images often use rom file extension.

Such images are used to represent the native format of ROMs images (older computers or game consoles like ZX Spectrum, Commodore, Amiga, Sony Playstation, Classic Mac OS etc.) in various emulator software.

Occassionally, .rom files are also used in hardware or BIOS update utilities for firmware files, for example e.g. graphic cards (GPU-Z).

Files with rom file extension can be most often found as various ROM (read only memory) images, either for emulation purposes or for updating firmware / BIOS.

How to open:

You can use these files only in the appropriate emulator or firmware/bios update utility.

How to convert:

These files are typically not meant to be converted to anything else.
