File extension prefs is commonly used for preferences or various settings file in many programs, typically in text format.

For example such files can be found in Exclipse, Zend Studio, Adobe Soundbooth and plenty of other programs.

Files with prefs suffix usually store preferences or project settings for various software. Many different file types sharing same extension.

How to open:

You usually cannot open prefs files manually, they are loaded automatically when saved in proper folder.

How to convert:

In most cases, this generic file type is not meant to be converted to anything else.
