The ods file extension is mainly associated with OpenOffice.orc Calc and other spreadsheet programs that adopted the ODF scheme of document formats, for example LibreOffice and other, often open source, office productivity suites.

The ODS spreadsheet file is based on a ODF - OpenDocument Format developed for office applications to be used for documents containing text, spreadsheets, charts, and graphical elements.

OpenDocument format is an open standard XML-based file format under the stewardship of OASIS. OpenDocument also creates the possibility for new types of applications and solutions to be developed other than traditional office productivity applications.

As the ODF document scheme is widely supported, most modern spreadsheet programs have no trouble in opening of .ods files.

How to convert:

You can open .ods file in any supported spreadsheet program and save it to some other spreadsheet format, for example XLS / XLSX from Microsoft Excel.
