The oaf file extension is associated with the ETH Oberon.

Oberon is a general-purpose programming language that evolved from Modula-2. Its principal new feature is the concept of type extension.

It permits the construction of new data types on the basis of existing ones and provides relations between them.

The oaf file stores applet created in ETH Oberon.

Also some proprietary or closed file formats cannot be converted to more common file types in order to protect the intellectual property of the developer, which is for example the case of some DRM-protected multimedia files.
