.MFT File

The mft file extension is associated with NTFS file system (New Technology File System) that is used by Microsoft Windows operating systems from NT family.

The mft (Master File Table) is used by Windows NTFS file to store information (metadata) about data on the hard drive.

Information from Master File Table are including file name, creation date, access permissions (by the use of access control lists), and size of every file, directory and metafile on the storage.

Note: The first sixteen records in the MFT are always reserved for the volume's metadata files.

Files with mft extension are mainly related to metadata from NTFS file system used by various versions of Microsoft Windows operating system.
