What is an .MDX file?

File extension mdx is nowadays mostly known for its use for Media Data eXtended format.

MDX is a proprietary disk image file format developed by DT Soft Ltd., the company behind Daemon Tools and Astroburn applications.

MDX file format is used the same way as MDS/MDF images. It was created to hold the information in one file, instead of two.

As an .mdx file contains major information about image data structure, it cannot be split to several parts.

Because MDX is a proprietary format, it is currently only supported in DaemonTools and Astroburn software.

Files with mdx file extension are most often found as special disk image format similar to MDS/MDF used in Daemon Tools and Astroburn. No 3rd party applications are able to work with mdx files and only Daemon Tools and Astroburn are able to convert them to ISO files.

How to open:

You can mount *.mdx images in Deamon Tools or burn them using Astroburn.

How to convert:

Daemon Tools and Astroburn can both create and convert .mdx files to another disk image formats, such as ISO.
