File extension mdt is associated with Microsoft Access a database management system, part of Microsoft Office Suite, developed by Microsoft Corporation.

These mdt files were used by Microsoft Access prior version 2007 for templates used when creating new databases.

The latest versions of Microsoft Access are using the accdt files for database templates instead.

The Access database with mdt file extension is also used by Intergraph GeoMedia to store geospatial data.

Files with mdt extension can be found as older templates for some of the earlier version of Microsoft Access, prior version 2007.
