What is an .MDDATA file?

The mddata file extension is associated with the Apple iTunes, the standard device and multimedia management application for iOS devices. Apple iTunes can create backup of the iOS device.

Backup data are stored in files with name made from up to 40 characters and file extension mddata.

Since version 9.2 iTunes doesn't use file extension mddata anymore and backup files have only 40 characters name without file extension.

This mddata file type entry was marked as obsolete and no longer supported file format.

This type of file is no longer actively used and is most likely obsolete. This is typically the case for system files in old operating systems, file types from long discontinued software, or previous versions of certain file types (like documents, projects etc.) that were replaced in higher versions of their original programs.

Files with mddata file extension may be encountered as ikd  backups of iOS devices created in some legacy versions of Apple iTunes.

How to open:

These files could have been used to restore data in iTunes prior version 9.2.
