What is an .M16 file?

File extension m16 is associated with Microsoft Money, a personal finance management software, developed by Microsoft Corporation. As of 2010, the product is officially discontinued and no longer supported by Microsoft.

The .mn1 to .m16 files are created when you install a new version of Microsoft Money. As part of the conversion process, it creates a backup copy of your unconverted file. The file uses the relevant extension to the version it was last used in. These files are not required for Money to run, but you should be sure you will never revert to an older version of Money again before you delete them. Only these files can be opened in the previous version of Money, not the MNY file.
