The ldb file extension is associated with Microsoft Access, a database management system, part of Microsoft Office Suite, developed by Microsoft Corporation.

The LDB format was used by Microsoft Access prior version 2007 for database lock files. The latest versions of Microsoft Access are using the laccdb files for databases instead.

Whenever an mdb file is opened, an ldb file with the same file is created.

This type of ldb files plays an important role in the multiuser scheme of the Microsoft Jet database engine. The ldb file is used to determine which records are locked in a shared database and by whom.
