What is an .LCK file?

The lck file extension is often used for so called lock files, which are mainly used as database access control files, that are created whenever a database is opened in a program.

They purpose is to "lock" currently used database for other users who would like to alter that database as well.

This file type is used by many database systems. These files are not meant to be opened and created only temporary until the work in database is finished and the database is closed.

If you have a lock .lck file in your system with no database opened, it usually means that it was not closed properly (crash etc.).

Note: Some other programs, like Adobe Dreamweaver, Pegasus Mail, Autodesk Inventor etc., use locks as well, although not being database systems. Their purpose is usually the same, or closely related.

How to open:

You cannot open this file manually, the whole reason it exist is so you cannot open the file it 'locked'.

How to convert:

Lock files are not meant to be converted to anything else.
