What is an .JSE file?

The jse file extension is used for an encoded variant based on standard JavaScript JS file.

These variant is often used by developers to protect their source codes against viewing or editing, but work much like their JS counterparts.

JScript is the Microsoft implementation of the ECMA 262 language specification (ECMAScript Edition 3).

With only a few minor exceptions (to maintain backwards compatibility), JScript is a full implementation of the ECMA standard. The jse file contains encoded JScirpt.

A jse file extension is used for a special encoded version of JScript files. JSCript is Microsoft implementation of the ECMAScript Edition 3, similar to JavaScript. First introduced for Microsoft Internet Explorer 3.
