The jng file extension is related to a special bitmap image format meant for network and internet distribution.

JNG was created as an adjunct to the MNG animation format, but may be used as a stand-alone format.

JNG files embed an 8-bit or 12-bit JPEG datastream in order to store color data, and may embed another datastream (1, 2, 4, 8, 16 bit PNG, or 8 bit JPEG grayscale image) for transparency information. Actually, a JNG may contain two separate JPEG datastreams for color information (one eight-bit and one twelve-bit) to permit decoders that are unable to (or do not wish to) handle twelve-bit datastreams to display the eight-bit datastream instead, if one is present.

This jng file type entry was marked as obsolete and no longer supported file format.

This type of file is no longer actively used and is most likely obsolete. This is typically the case for system files in old operating systems, file types from long discontinued software, or previous versions of certain file types (like documents, projects etc.) that were replaced in higher versions of their original programs.

Files with jng file extension can be found as special images saved in JPEG Network Graphic format.

Several image viewers, such as Xnview or ACDsee can open and view this file type.

How to convert:

Much like other graphics formats, even JNG format can be exported and saved to other bitmap formats.
