What is an .IES file?

The ies file extension is used for a special photometric data format, created as standard by Illumination Engineering Society of North America (IESNA). It is the de facto industry standard file format for electronic transfer of photometric data.

A typical ies file basically contains the measurement of distribution of light (intensity) stored in ASCII format

This format is used by many 3D programs, that can use the photometry data.

Files with ies extension are special photometric data files saved in a format developed by IESNA (Illumination Engineering Society of North America).

How to open:

Some 3D graphic programs, like 3D Studio Max are able to import the phonometric data from *.ies files.

How to convert:

It is likely that IES format can be exported to other files that contain photometry data.
