What is an .HPI file?

The hpi file extension is used for an photo image format used by Hemera. Most likely some very old graphics file format and no longer used and supported.

Images was sold by Hemera, under the product name Hemera Photo Objects.

Hemera has stated a preference to not include the proprietary HPI file format in third-party applications.

Any hpi file consists of a fixed 32-byte header which resembles the header used in PNG (Portable Network Graphics) files. Following this header, the color image information is presented in JPEG format.

Following the main image, the grayscale mask information is presented in PNG format.

This achieves good compression on the image data, and excellent compression on the grayscale mask data which is usually dominated by pure white and pure black pixels.

This hpi file type entry was marked as obsolete and no longer supported file format.

This type of file is no longer actively used and is most likely obsolete. This is typically the case for system files in old operating systems, file types from long discontinued software, or previous versions of certain file types (like documents, projects etc.) that were replaced in higher versions of their original programs.

A hpi file extension is associated with the Hemera Photo Image format an old graphics file format used by Hemera Photo Objects.
