What is an .GVI file?

The gvi file extension seems to be mainly associated with the Google Video on-line service.

The Google Video index is the most comprehensive on the Web, containing millions of videos indexed and available for viewing. Using Google Video, you can search for and watch an ever-growing collection of TV shows, movie clips, music videos, documentaries, personal productions and more from all over the Web.

Google Video Player was discontinued in 2007 and is no longer distributed by Google.

The gvi video format is similar to DivX4 and audio is stored in MP3 format.

This gvi file type entry was marked as obsolete and no longer supported file format.

This type of file is no longer actively used and is most likely obsolete. This is typically the case for system files in old operating systems, file types from long discontinued software, or previous versions of certain file types (like documents, projects etc.) that were replaced in higher versions of their original programs.

Files with gvi file extension can be usually encountered as old videos saved in now discontinued Google video format.

How to open:

Use VLC media player to open and play *.gvi video files.

How to convert:

Some multimedia converters may still support this format, but for all we know GVI format is largely unsupported.
