File extension graphml is mainly used for a graph file format.

GraphML is a comprehensive XML-based file format for graphs. It consists of a language core to describe the structural properties of a graph and a flexible extension mechanism to add application-specific data.

GraphML language supports:

• hierarchical graphs
• graphical representations

• application-specific attribute data
• light-weight parsers

The graphml files can be opened in yEd, or Gephi editors as well as with Microsoft Excel with NodeXL template.
