What is an .FIRM file?

A FIRM file is a firmware file used by Boot9Starp, a program used to install custom firmware on to a Nintendo 3DS video game console. It contains data used to modify a Nintendo 3DS for various purposes, such as adding support for software, modifying a game, or providing boot-up directions. FIRM files are commonly used for storing Luma3DS firmware.

Instead of .BIN files, Boot9Strap uses FIRM files for payloads. FIRM files are typically placed and located in the "boot9strap" folder on the SD card of the Nintendo 3DS.

NOTE: FIRM files are not meant to be opened on a computer. They are meant to be opened by Boot9Strap when installed on a Nintendo 3DS.
