What is an .F90 file?

The f90 file extension is traditionally used for language source files written in Fortran.

Fortran is a general-purpose, procedural, imperative programming language that is especially suited to numeric computation and scientific computing.

Originally developed by IBM in the 1950s for scientific and engineering applications, Fortran came to dominate this area of programming early on and has been in continual use for over half a century in computationally intensive areas such as numerical weather prediction, finite element analysis, computational fluid dynamics (CFD), computational physics, and computational chemistry.

It is one of the most popular languages in the area of High-performance computing and programs to benchmark and rank the world's fastest supercomputers are written in Fortran.

MIME types:

An f90 file extension is associated with the Fortran a programming language. An f90 file stores source code.

How to open:

Fortran source files can be opened in Microsoft Visual Studio just fine.

How to convert:

As far as we know, this .f90 file type can't be converted to any other file format. This is usually the case of system, configuration, temporary, or data files containing data exclusive to only one software and used for its own purposes. Also some proprietary or closed file formats cannot be converted to more common file types in order to protect the intellectual property of the developer, which is for example the case of some DRM-protected multimedia files.
