The edt file extension is related to old program called Adobe Acrobat eBook Reader.

The edt file is not actual e-book but an instruction for the program how to download the e-book, which usually was in PDF format.

Nowadays EDT format is somewhat rare, but Adobe Digital Editions should still open it.

Also some proprietary or closed file formats cannot be converted to more common file types in order to protect the intellectual property of the developer, which is for example the case of some DRM-protected multimedia files.
