What is an .DSS file?

The dss file extension is primarily used for a high-compression DSS (Digital Speech Standard) file format, a simple and cost effective way of sending high-quality voice files attached to e-mails.

The DSS file format is used by almost every Olympus Digital Voice Recorder. It is a 16-bit, mono sound format.

DSS format was developed by International Voice Association (IVA) founded by Olympus, Philips and Grundig.

Although dss files are usually only 1/12th to 1/20th the size of conventional WAVE files, there is no reduction in playback quality.

Files with dss file extension can be mainly found as recorded voice audio files in the Olympus Digital Speech Standard file format.

How to open:

You can playback DSS files using several audio players.

How to convert:

It may be possible to convert DSS audio to one of the more common audio format like MP3 or similar.
