What is an .DOCM file?

The docm file extension is associated with Microsoft Word, a powerful authoring program that gives you the ability to create and share documents by combining a comprehensive set of writing tools with the easy-to-use Microsoft Office Fluent user interface, which is part of Microsoft Office.

The docm files are the new default document format of Microsoft Word 2007, Word 2010, Word 2013 and Word 2016.

They serve the same purpose as the docx files, but also contain additional macros and VBA scripting.

The docm files use ZIP compression for smaller file sizes.

A docm file extension is used for default macro-enabled document format of latest versions of Microsoft Word. Such documents may contain additional VBA scripts or macros, that enhance some functions of the Word document.


How to open:

User Microsoft Word to open the *.docm files, or any third party applications with support for DOCM format such as OpenOffice.org Writer.

How to convert:

Microsoft Word supports some other document file formats such as OpenDocument format and it can convert the .docm file into it, via menu File|Save as... Third party applications, such as OpenOffice.org, can also convert the .docm files in to another file format, for example OpenDocument or PDF.
