The bm file extension is used for a bitmap image format used in X Windows system.

This is a format for storing bitmaps of screen captures of the X Window system. There are a large number of variations of this format, depending on the type of graphics adapater the user has (monochrome, fixed colors, color images with palettes, TrueColor and more).

Because of the large number of possible variations, not all software which can read this format may be able to read all possible variations of the format.
