A BFWAV file is an audio file saved in the Binary caFe WAVe (BFWAV) format used by various Nintendo Wii U and Switch games. It is similar to a .WAV file and consists of an "INFO" and "DATA" section that stores information about the sound and the actual sound data. BFWAV files may contain a sound effect or background music that is looped during gameplay.
BFWAV files are typically packaged in BARS archives, which are delivered with games. You most likely will only encounter a BFWAV file if you extract it from a BARS archive. You can open a BFWAV file using Foobar2000.
NOTE: BFWAV files are used in a variety of games, including Super Mario Maker, Splatoon, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, and Splatoon 2.
