The herbst file extension seems to be with a ransomware labeled as herbst that targets mainly German users. 

This particular ransomware will encrypt data files with AES encryption and append the file extension herbst to encrypted files. It demands approximately ~$50 USD to get a decryption key.

This particular ransomware was encountered in early June 2016.

How to open:

Such files can only be accessed again and recovered when you pay the ransom, in this case in 50 bucks. Or you need to wait for some kind of decryptor.

How to convert:

You cannot convert or recover .herbst files without some decryption utility.
