The psd file extension is used for PhotoShop Designated file - native Adobe Photoshop pixel based graphic file format that takes up less memory than uncompressed TIF files. However it can contain some graphics elements in vector based graphics.

The Photoshop psd graphics file contains layers with masks, color spaces, ICC profiles, transparency, text, alpha channels and spot colors, clipping paths, and duotone settings. Maximal resolution of Photoshop psd file is limited to 30 000 pixels in width and height.

The Photoshop psd graphics file format is also supported by other Adobe applications, such as Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Premiere Pro, and After Effects.
